Refurbishment Checklist

ATM Refurbishment Checklist

Many ATM service businesses will merely clean an ATM and call it "Refurbished" but a TestLink refurbishment is a genuine alternative to the purchase of a new machine.

In order to truly extend the life of an ATM and ensure that it leaves the TestLink factory as reliable as the day it left the OEM factory, TestLink engineers carry out 210 checks on every ATM leaving our European facilties. Here are just a few of them:

ATM Dispenser Belts

What we do:

  • check belts' tension and condition and replace where necessary.

What this prevents:

  • increase in cash to purge bin as timing moves
  • no cash dispensed
  • jams in transport mechanism.

ATM Shutters

What we do:

  • remove from ATM
  • strip down
  • clean thoroughly
  • lubricate
  • insulate PCB.

What this prevents:

  • shutter jams open intermittently or permanently
  • shutter jams closed intermittently or permanently
  • no cash is dispensed.

ATM Gears

What we do:

  • replace gears when more than half worn
  • replace bearings with too much movement
  • lubricate in appropriate areas.

What this prevents:

  • increase in cash to purge bin as timing moves due to cogs jumping
  • jams in transport mechanism
  • no cash is dispensed.

ATM Plug-in PSUs

What we do:

  • clean and test
  • check fan operation.

What this prevents:

  • PSU overheats and ATM shuts down.

ATM Dispenser Control Boards

What we do:

  • replace control board battery
  • set up dispenser for local currency and correct cassette types.

What this prevents:

  • incorrect value of cash is dispensed
  • cash sent to purge bins
  • no cash is dispensed.

ATM Carcasses

What we do:

  • check looms for damage
  • check gas struts for strength
  • check fan under monitor tray for operation and replace if necessary.

What this prevents:

  • intermittent failure when racking module trays
  • injuries caused to staff if hood falls on head or fingers
  • monitor overheats.

NCR ATM Vacuum Systems

What we do:

  • replace pick cups
  • replace air filters.

What this prevents:

  • jams in transport mechanism
  • no cash is dispensed

ATM Keys/Locks

What we do:

  • check ATM for missing keys and worn or missing locks

What this prevents:

  • cannot gain entry to ATM safe
  • cannot gain entry to printers or card capture bin
  • cannot put ATM into supervisor mode.

ATM LVDTs

What we do:

  • clean and inspect roller. If pitted then roller is replaced.

What this prevents:

  • multiple notes dispensed where only single should be.

ATM Lamps

What we do:

  • fit new fluorescent lamps
  • inspect ballasts for heat damage.

What this prevents:

  • logo panel not lit or not bright.

ATM Dispenser Sensors

What we do:

  • clean, align and inspect all sensors.

What this prevents:

  • transport jams
  • cash not dispensed as controller shuts down dispenser.

ATM FDKs

What we do:

  • dismantle and clean contacts
  • check and replace weather seal.

What this prevents:

  • buttons do not work
  • water gets into buttons and monitor (which will fail).

ATM Belt Rollers

What we do:

  • clean and inspect rollers for free movement.

What this prevents:

  • transport jams.

ATM Keyboards

What we do:

  • inspect weather seal.

What this prevents:

  • water gets into ATM.

ATM Cores/PC

What we do:

  • replace CMOS battery
  • upgrade BIOS
  • physically secure memory to motherboard
  • check cooling fan running
  • check CPU fitted and running
  • ensure cable securing nuts are fitted.

What this prevents:

  • ATM will not boot up after power fail if battery is low
  • latest software may not run if BIOS is not upgraded
  • memory moves out of socket during transportation and ATM will not boot up
  • motherboard overheats and fails, ATM fails
  • cables make intermittent contact, ATM is intermittently unavailable.

ATM Depositories

What we do:

  • check transport belts and change them as necessary
  • lubricate as necessary.

What this prevents:

  • envelope jams.

ATM Card Readers

What we do:

clean dirt from rollers, clean off dust from mechanics and sensors

  • clean heads
  • check cables for cuts or damage.

What this prevents:

  • cards not read, no cash is dispensed
  • customer card is captured.

ATM Fascias

What we do:

  • clean fascia
  • fill holes, scratches and cracks
  • strengthen cracked areas
  • fit new gutter pipe.

What this prevents:

  • water collects in fascia of ATM.

ATM Printers

What we do:

  • clean mechanical parts and remove dust
  • clean 'cut sensor'
  • check cables for cuts or damage
  • check print for clarity.

What this prevents:

  • unreadable prints
  • paper cut at incorrect point, too much print or too little
  • no printout.

ATM Shipping

What we do:

  • ship ATMs on foam pallets to minimise shock impact on mechanical parts
  • pack ATMs professionally to reduce and cushion internal movement of parts.

What this prevents:

  • ATM does not work
  • ATM works intermittently
  • early life failures.
